The Graduation Ceremony, Class 2016 of International Balkan University was held on Friday, 3rd JUne 2016 at the Macedonian National Theatre in Skopje with the participation of significant figures of the political, diplomatic, academic and business life from Macedonia, Balkans and Turkey.

The honorable guests of the Ceremony were the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Numan KURTULMUŞ and his spouse, Prof. Dr. Sevgi Kurtulmuş, and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Festim HALILI.

The sixth generation of 127 students of Bachelor studies and third generation of 20 students of Master studies graduated from IBU in the academic year 2015/2016.

Greeting speeches were delivered by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Numan KURTULMUŞ, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Festim HALILI, Minister of State in the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Furkan ÇAKO, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Skopje, H.E. Ömür ŞÖLENDİL, President of the IBU Executive Board and Member of Parliament in the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Hüseyin BÜRGE and Rector of IBU, Prof. Dr. İsmail KOCAYUSUFOĞLU.

In his address in front of the audience, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey, Prof. Dr. Numan KURTULMUŞ stated that he has followed closely the progress of International Balkan University since its first days of foundation and that he shares the satisfaction with the founders, academic staff and students for the progress that IBU has made in the past 10 years. He conveyed the greetings of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Honorable Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, who, due to his official visit in Africa could not participate at the Graduation Ceremony.

“Why the Balkans, why IBU? People in the Balkan region used to live in peace for six centuries, but unfortunately ethnic, religious and sectarian strives divided people. After a century, as grandchildren of the Ottomans, we are back in the Balkans to rediscover its historic and cultural heritage, to integrate with its people and walk together towards a better future. In this mission, International Balkan University is a scientific center that symbolizes the unity of the peoples of the Balkans.” said Kurtulmuş during his speech.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Festim HALILI on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia conveyed his congratulations to the graduates. He said that the success story of the International Balkan University serves as a good example of multiculturalism and qualitative education in the country.

The President of the IBU Executive Board, Mr. Hüseyin BÜRGE in his speech noted that, as we are celebrating the 10th anniversary, IBU today is a fortified bridge between the nations of the Balkans and Turkey. He expressed his deep belief that the younger generations of the region will strenghten the brotherly relations between them for the sake of prosperity and common welfare.

The Rector of International Balkan University, Prof. Dr. İsmail KOCAYUSUFOĞLU emphasized the importance of IBU in spreading knowledge to youngsters of different national and cultures all over the Balkans and beyond. ‘Back in 2011, when we were celebrating the first graduation ceremony, they were only 19 graduates. Today, they are 144. A decade earlier it was only two faculties and two programmes; today we have 7 faculties, 22 undergraduate and 6 master programmes.” He congratulated the graduates on their completion of the university education and wished them successful careers in the future. “IBU was and will remain your second home. You belong here. While you open many new doors in the future, don’t forget that there is and there will always be an open door for you at IBU” was Rector’s message for the graduates.

The best student of the generation 2012-2016 is Natyra Xharavina, student of Public Relations at the Faculty of Communications, with an average grade of 9,97. Best students of departments were also promoted at the Ceremony. The Foundation for Education and Culture ÜSKÜP awarded scholarshipsor master studies at IBU to the best students.
