THE STATUS OF WELL BEING OF THE RETIREES LIVING IN THE CITY: THE CASE OF ISTANBUL
In this study, it is aimed to examine the well-being of the retires living in cities in terms of gender, age, marital status, education and income. It is aimed to reveal the relationship between the participants doing exercise and their psychological well-being. The study was carried out with individuals using community centers, which were opened by the local administrations in Istanbul. A cross-sectional study was carried out with a research sample of 176 participants over 55 years of age of age using community centers in Kadıköy, Maltepe, Beşiktaş, Üsküdar and Tuzla districts. A questionnaire containing personal information and psychological well-being scale was used to collect the research data. SPSS 21 program was used to analyses the data.
Relationships between psychological well-being and gender and marital status were examined by independent groups t test technique, the relationship between psychological well-being age groups was examined by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). There was no significant relationship between the psychological well-being and gender of the participants (p>,05). There was a significant difference in terms of psychological well-being and marital status in favor of married participants (p<,05), Furthermore, psychological well-being was found high in sportsmen and homeowners (p<,05). Also, there was a significant difference between participants of 55-64 years of age and 75 years of age in favor of those in 55-64 years of age (p<,05). in terms of psychological well-being. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature and various suggestions were made.
