IBU Unveils the State-of-the-Art HalkBank Library: A Monument to Knowledge and Academic Excellence

A new chapter in the academic journey of International Balkan University (IBU) was written today as the institution celebrated the grand opening of the new spaces of the IBU HalkBank Library, a cutting-edge educational space generously funded by HALKBANK Skopje. Designed to foster an optimal learning environment, this library is set to be a cornerstone for students and academics alike.

 

The opening ceremony, held in the presence of distinguished guests, featured speeches from key figures, including Mrs. Vesna Janevska, the Minister of Education and Science of North Macedonia, Mr. Süleyman Özdil, President of the Management Board of IBU, and Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar, the Rector of IBU, and General Manager of Halkbank Türkiye Mr. Osman Arslan.

 

The event was also graced by H.E. Fatih Ulusoy, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Skopje, officials from HalkBank Türkiye, led by General Manager Mr. Osman Arslan, and HalkBank Skopje’s General Manager, Mr. Bilal Sucubaşı. Among other special guests were academicians, politicians, Members of Parliament, representatives of different organizations, media, business community, and NGOs.

 

Minister Janevska, in her speech, highlighted the significance of academic investments in shaping the future: "International Balkan University is a great example of where cultures and traditions can be blended. We have many shared cultures and traditions, and it is good for students to share them with each other. The future is not just for Macedonia or Turkey, but the future of the world lies in developing strong human resources or great human capital." She further emphasized the importance of higher education institutions investing in academic facilities, adding, "The investment of companies and businesses in education is particularly important."

 

Rector Sunar shared his enthusiasm about the new facility, highlighting its immense value for the university and its role in advancing the academic experience: “With a collection of ten thousand printed books and one hundred thousand e-books, state-of-the-art digital access, and a variety of study spaces, this library will be a beacon of knowledge for all who enter its doors,” said Rector Sunar. “Our library offers a total capacity of 317 seats, including dedicated spaces for both quiet and collaborative study, and it is expected to serve an average of 1,000 students daily.”

 

Recep Süleyman Özdil, President of the Management Board of IBU, emphasized the university's mission as a non-profit foundation dedicated to developing human resources in both North Macedonia and Turkey. He highlighted IBU's commitment to not only academic success but also social development and cultural cooperation. "Aware of the critical role investments in education and science play in the development of societies, we will continue to improve the infrastructure and academic projects without interruption, ensuring that our students receive the best education under the best conditions," he stated. He also expressed hope that the new library would inspire students, enhance academic work, and serve as a gateway to knowledge for the entire university community.

 

Mr. Osman Arslan, General Manager of HalkBank Türkiye, expressed confidence that the new library will inspire over 3,000 students and academics. He highlighted that HalkBank’s support extends beyond the library, with a commitment to backing educational initiatives and contributing to the overall economic, social, and cultural development of North Macedonia. The strong, ongoing friendship between the Turkish and Macedonian peoples continues to guide their partnership.

 

The IBU HalkBank Library is a remarkable academic investment, designed to nurture creativity and intellectual growth. It features a 300-person workspace, a vast collection of books, and modern study zones, including a silent study area, an open-air reading space, and a dedicated academic research section. The library promises to enhance the university’s educational resources, supporting a vibrant community of students, faculty, and researchers.
