IBU FLAW Students Engage in Powerful Debate on Environmental Responsibility

The Faculty of Law at the International Balkan University successfully held another session of its Weekly Student Debate Series today, bringing together students and faculty staff for a thought-provoking exchange of ideas on global environmental justice.

The debate took place on 17th of April in FLAW Courtroom, where students tackled the challenging and timely thesis: “Developed countries should bear the majority of the cost for global environmental damage.”

The participating students — Mirza Demiri, Dea Selimi, Shpetime Gavazi (as affirmative team) and Unver Kaan Gurun, Ahmet Oguz Ergun, and Sevval Sila Bakirci (as negative team) impressed the audience with their structured arguments, sharp analysis, and engaging delivery. Their performance reflected a solid grasp of environmental law, international justice, and ethical responsibility.

The student teams were coordinated and mentored by Dr. Leposava Ognjanoska Stavrovska, lecturer of the Environmental Law course, whose guidance played a key role in shaping the students’ preparation and confidence. Students and IBU staff filled the courtroom, offering a supportive and interactive environment that elevated the overall energy of the debate.

The Weekly Debate Series continues to serve as a dynamic platform for students to sharpen their rhetorical and analytical skills while engaging with pressing legal and societal issues.

The Faculty of Law extends its gratitude to all participants and attendees for making the event a success and looks forward to welcoming everyone at the next debate.
