IBU Hosts Skopje International Model United Nations

The International Balkan University proudly hosted the SIMUN 2025 – Skopje International Model United Nations on 2nd and 3rd June, organized by UNA-North Macedonia (MUNA). Model United Nations is an educational simulation of the UN, which teaches students about the principles of this international organization and how the bodies of the UN operate.

During a model UN conference, students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country, learning about diplomacy, international relations, and contemporary pressing global issues in the process.

Following an opening ceremony at the Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than twenty participants of SIMUN 2025 arrived at IBU campus, where they were welcomed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mare Ushkovska from the IBU Faculty of Law.

Participants, mainly high-school students from different schools around the country, were given a presentation of IBU academic programs for undergraduate and graduate studies by Asst. Sezer Ferhad from the Faculty of Law, followed by a tour of the IBU campus.

Over the course of two days at IBU, participants at the Model UN simulated the work of the UN Human Rights Council, engaging in debate, development of argumentation, and drafting of resolutions. The collaboration between IBU and MUNA underscores a commitment to empowering young people and supporting the development of critical thinking, intercultural understanding, civic responsibility, and leadership through extracurricular educational activities.
