International Balkan University was proudly represented by Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seyhan Murtezan Ibrahimi at the 5th Âşık Art Symposium, held on July 17–18, 2025, at Cappadocia University’s Mustafapaşa Campus. Participating as a keynote speaker, Dr. Ibrahimi contributed to the academic dialogue with her presentation titled “The Âşık Tradition in the Balkans in the Context of Cultural Memory.”
Speaking during the opening session, Dr. Ibrahimi drew attention to the vital role of âşıks—oral poets and cultural transmitters—in preserving and shaping the historical memory of the Balkan region. She emphasized how this tradition has continued to influence the cultural landscape of the region today, offering insights into its enduring significance and connection to Europe’s shared heritage.
Her participation underlined IBU’s commitment to cultural research and academic collaboration on an international level. Dr. Ibrahimi’s presence also strengthened the university’s visibility in regional studies and showcased its dedication to preserving intangible cultural heritage through scholarly engagement.
