Academic representatives from the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, International Balkan University, including Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Andovski, Asst. Prof. Dr. Marija Miloshevska Janakieska, Asst. Nadica Angova Kolevska, Asst. Vjosa Saracini, and Asst. Dr. Kefajet Edip, participated in the international conference titled “The Future is Resilient – Transformative Change Through Civic Engagement” (UPRUN), held at the Faculty of Architecture at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia, on March 26–27, 2025.
The titles of the research papers presented by IBU academicians in different sessions of the conference were as follows:
- Vjosa Saracini: “Public Spaces for All: Enhancing Social Cohesion and Urban Sustainability in Skopje”.
- Nadica Angova Kolevska, Marija Miloshevska Janakieska, and Aleksandar Andovski: “City Quarters as a Mechanism for Urban Regeneration”, a research paper based on their award-winning architectural project, presented by Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Andovski.
- Kefajet Edip: “Urban Planning in Skopje and the Inclusion of the Community in the Decision-Making Process: Case Studies of the Municipalities of Čair, Butel, and Karpoš”.
At the end of each session, panel discussions were held, allowing the audience and presenters to engage in further dialogue on the topics presented. The conference provided an excellent opportunity to share innovative strategies and practices in urban planning among researchers from both the country and abroad, with the goal of strengthening the social resilience of urban neighborhoods.
