On this meaningful day, International Roma Day, we join the global community in honoring the rich cultural heritage, history, and contributions of Roma people across the world.
At International Balkan University, we stand for diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect. The Roma community is a vital part of our cultural fabric, and this day reminds us to promote equality and combat discrimination.
As a university committed to education and intercultural dialogue, IBU continues to foster an environment where all voices are heard and valued. In line with this mission, we are proud to lead a comprehensive and heartfelt social responsibility initiative in partnership with the Roma community in the Municipality of Shuto Orizari. This program reflects IBU’s dedication to using education as a force for good — where knowledge, compassion, and service come together to create meaningful impact.
The initiative, launched by our Rector Prof. Dr. Lütfi Sunar and formalized through a memorandum of cooperation, aims to empower the Roma community through education, mentorship, and care. IBU students and staff volunteer their time and talents in a variety of impactful activities: offering academic support and guidance to youth, engaging in cultural exchange, organizing mural-painting and gift-giving visits to local kindergartens, and promoting health and hygiene awareness through our Balkan Dental Clinic. These efforts not only uplift the community but also enrich the hearts and minds of our students, shaping them into socially responsible leaders of tomorrow.
At IBU, we believe true education extends beyond the classroom. This initiative is a shining example of how universities can be pillars of progress, unity, and transformation — building bridges where they are most needed and standing as active advocates for inclusion and equality.
Let’s celebrate and reflect on how we can build a more inclusive society.
