Robert Ljatifi and Elma Kahrovikj - students in the Department of Nursing at International Balkan Unviersity (IBU) - share their Erasmus+ experience of studying in Türkiye with us.
- Why Study for a Semester Abroad: Studying in Istanbul was a dream come true and doing it together as childhood friends made it even more special. It was the most incredible time of our lives. Not only did we challenge ourselves personally, but we also grew professionally. We learned new skills and techniques that will undoubtedly benefit our nursing careers. We were fortunate to have amazing mentors, like Prof. Dr. Sema Kuğuoğlu, Head of the Nursing Department at Istanbul Medipol University, whose guidance we’ll always be grateful for. This program allowed us to experience Istanbul in all its historical, cultural, and natural beauty, and to observe the healthcare system through practice at Medipol Mega Hospital.
- Why Türkiye: We were drawn to Türkiye because of our love for Istanbul. Although we were familiar with the language and culture, studying at Istanbul Medipol University gave us the perfect chance to fully immerse ourselves in the city. Being in such a dynamic and diverse environment helped us gain a fresh perspective both personally and professionally. It was the perfect setting to grow and expand our horizons.
- What We Learned: This experience pushed us beyond our comfort zones. We learned how to meet new people, solve problems independently, and adapt to a new environment. We’ve grown smarter, wiser and more independent. Academically, we deepened our understanding of nursing practices and the Turkish healthcare system, which will shape our future careers. Culturally, we learned the importance of embracing change and learned that growth happens when we challenge ourselves.
"Studying abroad isn’t just about academics - it’s about stepping into the unknown, challenging yourself, and gaining new perspectives. It shapes you in ways you never imagined, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. We wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone considering studying abroad - take the leap, and it will change your life for the better.”
