Rethinking ELT: Coursebooks, AI, and the Future of Teaching

The English Language Teaching (ELT) Department at International Balkan University (IBU) hosted an engaging and insightful panel discussion that brought together both pre-service and in-service teachers for a meaningful exchange of ideas and experiences in the field of English language teaching.

The event opened with a presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamta Mshvidobadze from Caucasus University – Tbilisi, Georgia, who is also a certified CELTA trainer. Her presentation, titled “To Use or Not to Use Materials in ELT: The Advantages and Disadvantages of Coursebooks and the Dogme Approach,” sparked reflection on current classroom practices and the evolving role of teaching materials.

Following the keynote, participants engaged in two dynamic discussion sessions: “AI-Generated Reading Materials” led by Prof. Dr. Ana Kechan and “The Coursebook Method” led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emin Idrizi

These sessions encouraged rich discussion, with participants contributing diverse perspectives, experiences, and questions related to modern ELT practices. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tamta Mshvidobadze and all participants for making today’s event a memorable and intellectually stimulating experience!
