At IBU, we believe in a student experience that goes beyond academics to include personal development and wellbeing. We know that the journey through university, filled with its opportunities, can sometimes lead to stress and feelings of being overwhelmed. These challenges might impact your studies, friendships, and overall wellness. Following thorough discussions within our community this year, we're enhancing our Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) for the academic year 2024 and beyond. Our aim is to support you in navigating university life, ensuring you have the resources and support to thrive in all areas. Together, let's build a supportive environment where every student feels empowered to succeed!
The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to enhance the psychological wellbeing of students by providing psychological services related to their individual needs. CAPS is committed to fostering personal growth and psychological health through ethical, responsive care and preventive strategies.
To create a secure, inclusive, and supportive environment that nurtures the psychological wellbeing of students, encouraging them to be proactive and globally responsible. CAPS is committed to enhancing service accessibility through various educational and online initiatives.
· Integrity, Accountability and Trust: CAPS fosters a psychologically safe space grounded in ethical practice.
· Respect, Compassion, Inclusiveness: Celebrating diversity and ensuring every individual feels acknowledged.
· Teamwork, Collaboration, Integration: Valuing the psychological benefits of cooperation to foster community and purpose.
Psychological Resilience encouraging self-discovery and connection through reflective practices that surpass mere standards, aiming for communal psychological prosperity. In essence, CAPS invites everyone to join in fostering self-discovery, connection, and psychological growth within our community.
Grounded in ethical principles, the confidentiality of personal information shared in counseling is regarded as a sacred trust. Every detail discussed during counseling sessions, including the student's connection with CAPS, is held in the strictest confidence. Without the student's express written informed consent, no information is disclosed to university officials, faculty, parents, or external entities.
CAPS adhere to strict ethical codes that ensure all communications and records remain private. While there are exceptions that mandate disclosure, such as threats to safety or abuse, these are limited and well-defined. When starting services, students are fully briefed on these confidentiality measures, which are designed to protect their privacy and encourage open, honest dialogue.
CAPS values the dignity and worth of each student and strives to provide services in alignment with this principle. It encourages the presence of diverse attitudes, beliefs, values, and behaviors within a respectful environment. Some mental health issues can be adversely affected by social forces such as racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, heterosexism, and other forms of oppression. Individuals facing these challenges may feel isolated and powerless.
CAPS is here to provide an open, affirming, and safe space for students confronting such difficulties, ensuring they feel understood, valued, and accepted. We take pride in embracing our differences. While acknowledging that values may sometimes conflict, we are committed to increasing awareness, reducing biases, and strengthening our multicultural perspective.
CAPS is designed to assist you in managing your emotions effectively, thereby enabling you to derive the maximum benefit from your university experience.
