We hosted an engaging guest lecture on our campus, organized by the English Language Teaching Department within the Faculty of Education, in collaboration with SIEC and a Peace Corps volunteer from the United States, Ms. Jacqueline Dejean. Through this meaningful academic initiative, we brought together our ELT students and an experienced international guest to explore contemporary themes at the intersection of language, culture, and identity. The lecture provided a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on the role of women in fashion, highlighting how cultural narratives and societal expectations shape both personal expression and global discourse.
During the session, we encouraged our students to actively engage with the topic through interactive discussions and collaborative group work. We examined cultural stereotypes and their influence on perceptions of fashion, while also creating a dynamic learning environment where students felt confident sharing their own experiences and viewpoints. By fostering open dialogue, we supported the development of critical thinking, intercultural awareness, and communicative competence—core components of our educational approach within the ELT program. The diversity of perspectives shared throughout the lecture enriched the learning experience and strengthened our students’ ability to analyze complex social issues.
We are proud to provide our students with opportunities that extend beyond traditional classroom learning, reinforcing our commitment to innovation, international collaboration, and student-centered education. This lecture stands as a strong example of how we integrate global perspectives into our academic activities, empowering our students to become reflective, creative, and socially aware individuals. We extend our sincere appreciation to our guest speaker and all participants for their valuable contributions, and we remain dedicated to organizing similar initiatives that continue to inspire and support the academic and personal development of our students.
