IBU Showcases Architectural Innovation Through Student Exhibition of Youth Center Projects in Collaboration with Municipality of Chair

We proudly hosted the student exhibition of Architectural Studio 5 on May 5, 2026, at the Balkan Gallery in the Rectorate Building of International Balkan University, where our architecture students presented their design proposals for a “Youth Center” developed in collaboration with the Municipality of Chair. The event brought together students, academic staff, university representatives, and local institutional stakeholders, creating a vibrant platform for dialogue and exchange. Among the distinguished attendees, Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ebru Ibish honored the event with her presence and delivered an inspiring opening address, highlighting the importance of integrating academic work with community needs. The exhibition was also attended by Mr. Arben Reçicar from the Urbanism Sector of the Municipality of Chair, further strengthening the connection between our academic environment and public institutions. The event was organized under the leadership of Asst. Prof. Dr. Arbresha Ibrahimi, Asst. Prof. Dr. Jasna Grujoska Kuneska, Asst. Faton Kalisi, and Asst. Harika Shehabi, reflecting our commitment to academic mentorship and excellence.

Through this initiative, we demonstrated the value of integrating academic learning with real-world challenges as part of the Architectural Design—Studio 5 course within the Department of Architecture. Building on a comprehensive analysis of the municipalities of Skopje, our students identified the pressing need for dedicated social spaces for youth, particularly in the Municipality of Chair, where a high percentage of the population consists of young people. In response, we initiated a meaningful collaboration with the municipality, in coordination with the mayor, Mr. Izet Mexhiti, and representatives from the urbanism sector, to encourage the development of practical, forward-thinking design solutions. Vice Rector Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Lökçe was also present at the exhibition, demonstrating our institutional support and engagement in student-led academic initiatives. This approach reflects our institutional dedication to fostering innovation, critical thinking, and socially responsible design practices among our students.

By organizing this exhibition, we not only celebrated the creativity and dedication of our students but also reinforced our role as a bridge between academia and the wider community. The presented projects offered innovative perspectives on how public spaces can be reimagined to better serve youth, contributing to ongoing discussions on urban development and social inclusion. Through such initiatives, we continue to strengthen our partnerships with local institutions, promote experiential learning, and support the development of future professionals who are equipped to address real societal needs. We remain committed to advancing academic excellence while contributing meaningfully to the communities we serve.
