IBU Students Visit Red Cross Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Center as Part of Practical Learning Experience

As part of our commitment to providing meaningful practical learning opportunities, students from the Psychology and Psychological Counseling and Guidance departments at International Balkan University recently visited the Center for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support at the Red Cross of RMV. Accompanied by Asst. Fatime Ziberi, the visit created an important educational environment where students were able to directly engage with professionals working in the field of mental health, psychosocial support, and crisis intervention. Through initiatives such as this, we continue to strengthen the connection between academic learning and professional practice while supporting the development of socially responsible future professionals.

During the visit, psychologist Ivona Gjeorgiva delivered a comprehensive presentation session focused on first psychological aid and shared valuable practical experiences from her professional work in crisis situations. Students were introduced to the challenges, preparation processes, and intervention methods involved in providing psychosocial support during emergencies and difficult circumstances in a highly informative and hands-on manner. The visit also provided students with deeper insight into the importance of mental health services, professional responsibility, empathy, and effective communication within psychological support systems. We also extend our sincere appreciation to Emira Ramadani, psychologist at the center, and Stefanija Serdarska, psychologist volunteer at the center, for their dedicated time, warm welcome, and readiness to share their expertise and experiences with our students.

This meaningful visit coincided with May, Mental Health Awareness Month, further emphasizing the importance of psychosocial support, mental well-being, and community awareness regarding mental health issues. Through collaborations with institutions and professionals actively engaged in community support services, we continue to enrich the educational experience of our students while encouraging professional growth, practical engagement, and active social contribution. Both institutions expressed strong interest in continuing their cooperation and exploring future joint initiatives and projects that contribute positively to the wider community and support the advancement of mental health awareness and education.
