About Department

The PhD program in Balkan Studies offers a modern curriculum that presents in-depth studies in the field of social sciences, specifically political sciences, with a focus on the specifics of the Balkans, social structure, political practices, and the interrelations of the states and societies existing in the Balkans.

General Requirements
  • Have completed a second cycle of studies with a minimum of 300 ECTS credits accumulated
  • Have achieved a minimum GPA of 7.00 from their previous higher education (first and second cycle)
  • Completed prior higher education in the same or similar scientific field as the third cycle program
  • A scientific-preparatory program may be applied for candidates from different academic backgrounds
  • Excellent knowledge of English (min. level B1 according to the CEFR)
  • Submit two recommendation letters from qualified referees
  • Academic and Higher Education Sector
  • Research and Policy Analysis
  • Experts in Philosophy, History, Political Science
